Bootleg Tape # 1

Bootleg Number: 1
Title: (none)
Format: 90 minute cassette
Cover Art: (none)
Recorded: circa Fall 1987

Bootleg Tape #1 was never given a name. If it had, perhaps it would have been called "Origins" or "In the Beginning". Who would have thought I'd still be doing this almost 20 years and about 100 recordings later. The original playlist was as follows:

Side A
Come Sail Away - Styx
And We Danced - Hooters
Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
Kyrie - Mr. Mister
If You Leave - Orchestral Maneuvers In The Dark (OMD)
We Are the Champions - Queen
Against the Wind - Bob Seger
Come Sail Away - Styx
Life In A Northern Town - Dream Academy
Deep In The Heart of Nowhere - Bob Geldolf

Side B
This Is The World Calling - Bob Geldof
Desperado - Eagles
American Storm - Bob Seger
Baba O'Riley - The Who
Sunday Bloody Sunday - U2
Love Like A Rocket - Geldof
Have You Ever Seen The Rain - Credence Clearwater Revival (CCR)
The Trees Are Testifying - Peter Himmelman
I Don't Like Mondays - Boomtown Rats
Thunder Road - Bruce Springsteen

The original eight tracks on the tape were recorded at my church youth directors' apartment using their turntable and cassette recorder. After recording a few songs from their collection I re-recorded Come Sail Away as the eighth track on the tape because I must have liked it a lot. I never did tape over it when I added more songs.

Aside from Desperado, the other songs were added using my brothers' record collection and parent's stereo system. Desperado was recorded off a borrowed LP record I got from my friend Brian. I believe it was his mom's. I'm not sure I ever actually returned it. What made this particular version of Desperado unique and something I look back on with a sort of nostalgia is that the album had lots of little scratches on it. It gave the recording a crackling sound. It seemed perfect for the song.
